Paramount+ has officially revealed the Season 2 premiere date of Dreaming Whilst Black and Kwabena’s painfully relatable journey through the so-called “progressive” entertainment industry resumes on Friday, February 20, 2026. New episodes will roll out weekly, because apparently emotional damage is best served in carefully spaced portions.
Created by and starring Adjani Salmon, Dreaming Whilst Black quickly distinguished itself in Season 1 as one of the sharpest, most self-aware comedies about making art in an industry that loves diversity panels more than actual diverse voices. The series earned BAFTA TV nominations, Spirit Award nods and an NAACP Image Award nomination.
Season 2 finds Kwabena exactly where ambitious creatives dream of being on the cusp of his first major directing opportunity. The gig? A radical, “color-blind” historical drama titled Sin and Subterfuge. On paper, it’s the kind of career-defining break that launches auteurs and silences doubters. In reality, it’s Dreaming Whilst Black, so of course it comes with strings, caveats, and a masterclass in institutional side-eye.
As Kwabena peers behind the curtain, the show digs deeper into questions of authorship, representation, and who actually gets to tell which stories once money, prestige, and branding get involved. The satire remains biting, but the emotional stakes feel sharper this time around. Kwabena isn’t just chasing validation anymore, he’s trying to avoid repeating past mistakes, including the moral compromises that cost him relationships in Season 1.
The official season logline reads, "When the chance to direct a color-blind historical drama arises, Kwabena thinks his dreams have come true. However, things aren’t quite as they seem."
The returning ensemble continues to be one of the show’s biggest strengths. Dani Moseley, Demmy Ladipo, Rachel Adedeji, Babirye Bukilwa, Roger Griffiths, Jo Martin, Martina Laird, and Kemi Adekoya all reappear, grounding the series’ industry skewering with characters who feel lived-in rather than written for punchlines. Direction duties are split between Sebastian Thiel and Abdou Cissé, while Salmon is joined in the writers’ room by Thara Popoola, Ali Hughes, and Yemi Oyefuwa.
Produced by A24 and Big Deal Films, Season 2 leans even harder into the contradictions of an industry that celebrates “bold voices” while quietly sanding down their edges. It’s funny, frustrating, and occasionally a little too real which has always been Dreaming Whilst Black’s secret weapon.
The six-episode season premieres February 20, 2026, with the finale set for March 27, exclusively on Paramount+ (Premium plan).
