‘Dexter: Resurrection’ Season 2 Trailer Gives Dexter Two New Killers — and a Midlife Crisis

Dexter Morgan has spent most of his life worrying about murder, police investigations and whether someone will finally connect all the bloody dots. Season 2 of Dexter: Resurrection has decided to add another enemy to the list: getting older.

The official trailer for the new season puts Michael C. Hall’s Dexter in a very different place as he tries to navigate life in his 50s while New York becomes increasingly crowded with killers who are either building reputations or refusing to let theirs die. Dexter has dealt with plenty of competition over the years, but this time he finds himself caught between two very different threats.

Brian Cox joins the season as the New York Ripper, a killer with decades of history behind him, while Dan Stevens plays a newer murderer known as the Five Borough Killer. One represents the kind of monster who has managed to survive long enough to become infamous, while the other is still making his name. Dexter being stuck between the old guard and the new generation feels like a particularly cruel way to remind him that he is not exactly the fresh-faced blood-spatter guy we met years ago.

Then there is Harrison. Jack Alcott returns as Dexter’s son, who is continuing his own pursuit of justice and is now stepping even further into the world of law enforcement. The trailer shows Harrison wearing an NYPD badge, which is either tremendous character growth or the universe developing a very specific sense of humor considering who his father is.

The father-son relationship remains a major piece of the series, and Season 2 looks ready to push it into even messier territory. Harrison knows far more about Dexter than most people ever have, which means their relationship is no longer built around Dexter hiding everything. Now they have to figure out what comes next when the truth is already sitting at the table.

Several familiar faces are also coming back. Uma Thurman returns as Charley, while Desmond Harrington is back as Quinn, immediately creating the kind of tension longtime Dexter fans are going to notice. James Remar also returns as Harry Morgan, continuing to serve as that familiar voice in Dexter’s head when he needs guidance, judgment or a reminder that his life choices are wildly complicated.

Krysten Ritter returns as Mia, while Gabriel Luna joins the season in a guest role. Bokeem Woodbine and Nona Parker Johnson are among the new series regulars, giving Dexter even more people to navigate while he tries to stay several steps ahead of everyone around him.

And yes, Dexter still has work to do. The trailer makes it clear that his table will remain busy, even as the larger battle with the New York Ripper and Five Borough Killer takes shape. The difference now is that Dexter is starting to feel the years catching up with him, and a man who built his entire existence around control suddenly seems much less certain about what this stage of his life is supposed to look like.

That might be the most interesting wrinkle of Season 2. Dexter has survived killers, investigations, near-death experiences and his own terrible decisions, but nobody gets to stab Father Time and dump him in the ocean.

Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 premieres Friday, October 30 on Paramount+ with the Premium Plan.
