Dark Matter Season 2 Trailer Debuts at SDCC With Premiere Date and Official Podcast

Apple TV came to San Diego Comic-Con with one mission: remind everyone that Dark Matter is far from done bending our brains. Mission accomplished. The streamer took over Hall H on Saturday to unveil the first trailer for Dark Matter Season 2, giving fans their first glimpse at what's next for Jason Dessen and the ever-expanding multiverse. Along with the new footage, Apple also confirmed the sci-fi thriller will return Friday, August 28, kicking off a 10-episode season with new episodes arriving every Friday through October 30.
Season 2 picks up after Jason (Joel Edgerton), Daniela (Jennifer Connelly), and Charlie appear to have found a safe place to call home. Of course, this is Dark Matter, where "safe" is usually just another word for "give it five minutes." Jason's growing obsession with the mysterious Box once again threatens everything around him, while Daniela begins questioning whether the danger they escaped is really behind them. Meanwhile, Charlie is simply trying to find some sense of normalcy in a life that's anything but ordinary.
One of the biggest strengths of Dark Matter has always been its ability to balance massive sci-fi concepts with relatable human emotions. Yes, there are alternate realities, impossible technology, and enough multiverse twists to keep viewers guessing, but at its core, the story has always been about family, identity, and wondering what life might have looked like if one decision had gone differently. That's what made Blake Crouch's bestselling novel resonate with readers, and it's what helped the television adaptation find an audience beyond hardcore science fiction fans.
The returning cast includes Joel Edgerton, Jennifer Connelly, Alice Braga, Jimmi Simpson, Dayo Okeniyi, Amanda Brugel, and Oakes Fegley, with creator Blake Crouch once again serving as showrunner, writer, and executive producer. Crouch co-wrote every episode of Season 2 alongside executive producer Jacquelyn Ben-Zekry, giving fans confidence that the series remains firmly in the hands of the people who understand its complicated world best.
Apple also announced an expansion of the Dark Matter universe with the launch of Dark Matter: The Official Podcast. Hosted by Crouch and Ben-Zekry, the companion podcast will debut alongside the new season and feature conversations with cast members, creative talent, and experts exploring everything from the show's biggest moments to the real science that inspired its mind-bending premise.
The podcast will even kick things off with a special recap episode designed to get viewers caught up before Season 2 premieres, which honestly feels like a public service considering how many realities, timelines, and versions of Jason we've all tried to keep straight.
Between the new trailer, the premiere date, and the announcement of an official companion podcast, Dark Matter fans walked away from Comic-Con with plenty to be excited about. The multiverse is officially opening back up on August 28, and if the first look is any indication, Jason Dessen's journey is about to get even more complicated.
