Boston Blue Brings Back Maria Baez—And Danny’s World Gets Complicated

Woman with long hair in a blue jacket looks thoughtful. She stands in front of a plain light background, conveying a pensive mood.

Buckle up, Blue Bloods refugees, because the long-distance relationship we’re all technically stalking is finally getting some screen time. If you’ve been watching Boston Blue and feeling like Danny Reagan’s new life in Beantown is missing a certain Brooklyn flare, the TV gods have heard your prayers. Marisa Ramirez is back again.

Brooklyn Comes to the Bay State

Titled "Homicide in Brooklyn," the upcoming April 17 episode plot kicks off when a case hits a little too close to home, specifically, Baez’s home. A murder in New York sends Baez packing her bags for a "work trip" to Boston to team up with Danny and his new partner, Lena Silver.

We all knew Danny moving to Massachusetts for a fresh start was going to be a logistical nightmare for his love life. While the showrunners confirmed early on that Danny and Baez are officially a couple, "tabled" conversations and 200 miles of I-95 have a way of cooling things off.

High Stakes and Smudged Mascara

If you’ve seen the teaser photos, you know this isn't exactly a romantic weekend getaway at a cozy B&B. Marisa Ramirez is pictured looking visibly shaken, sporting that "I’ve been crying but I still have a perp to catch" look she nails so well.

The episode promises to dig into the "ups and downs" of their relationship, which is code for: Danny left, Baez stayed, and FaceTime isn’t cutting it. Watching them navigate their relationship while Lena Silver hovers in the background is the kind of drama we love to see. Is there room for two partners in Danny’s life? Probably not, but watching them try to fit into the same precinct for an hour is going to be top-tier television.

Is Baez Here to Stay?

While we’d love to see Ramirez trading in her NY shield for a permanent spot in the Boston PD, don't get your hopes up just yet. Baez has made it clear she isn’t moving to the land of clam chowder and aggressive driving anytime soon. However, Donnie Wahlberg did drop a massive hint that Ramirez will be back for Season 2. Whether she’s a recurring guest or eventually caves and buys a parka remains to be seen.

One thing is certain: when Baez shows up, the stakes get higher and Danny actually starts listening to someone again. Episode 15 is shaping up to be the emotional anchor of the season, proving that you can take the detective out of Brooklyn, but you can’t take the Brooklyn detective out of the guy’s heart.

What do you think of the Danny and Baez long-distance drama? Are you Team Silver or Team Baez? Drop your theories in the comments and let’s argue about it.
