Two women in formal dresses comfort each other while a man holds one close in a hallway with an EXIT sign, looking distressed.

This week on Beyond The Gates, a life hangs in the balance, another woman faces pressure from her family, and Dani worries that her secret will be revealed.

Dani and Her Mistake

Dani confides in Vanessa, of all people, as if to make her more palatable for her stupidity. However, they are both stupid. Vanessa is just quite a bit more desperate, and her entire identity has become Joey.

I thought Dani was free, and it appears that she finally is after her mistake. The thing is, it should not have taken sleeping with that piece of crap who humiliated her on repeat for Dani to be free. She already had the love her husband gives her. Dani tells Vanessa about her slip-up, and Vanessa can’t judge, but these scenes feel out of place. Where was Pam? I don’t trust Vanessa, especially after she brought Joey to Martin’s fundraiser and refused to leave.

Dani goes to see Bill because she is a moron. Soap fanatics, see how I can criticize my favorite?

Dani puts her foot down, but this only spurs Bill on. He’s had a taste of the new confident Dani, the one who built herself back up with the help of her husband after Bill obliterated her. Dani talks about how great Andre is in comparison, but it rings hollow because she slept with Bill.

Bill claims to love his wife, and Dani rightfully says that he expects her to be his mistress. Bill denies it, but here is the thing: Bill wants Dani because she moved on. They are not some great love affair. Bill is a narcissistic assclown. As soon as Dani and Andre are done, Bill will be done with Dani too.

Medical Crisis

This week, we focus on Eva and the aftermath of the tornado. I won’t spend too much time here because there was one major theme: dogpile on Kat.

Everyone talks crap to Kat about needing to get tested to see if she could be a donor for Eva. We have all seen how Kat reacts to a medical crisis, but no, Martin goes off on her, Izaiah calls her selfish and out for revenge, and Ted guilt-trips her. Even Andre doesn’t have anything nice to say.

Look, writers, we get it. Kat is evil. The problem is, you haven’t shown us that she is selfish and stuck-up. She has had smoke for people who deserved it, and that is all you have shown.

Thankfully, Chelsea listens, and she and Kat go see Nicole. Nicole stands by Kat and gives her good advice. Kat finally agrees to be tested, but then she disappears again. She goes to see Anita to confirm the decision she had already made. Anita uses her guilt over Barbara as an example.

Anita, those are two distinctly different situations.

Ultimately, Kat goes through with it.

Final Thoughts on the Week

This week was good, but it could have done without the abuse of Kat. She was literally being surrounded and asked to be used for spare parts. It was gross, and I truly do not understand the hatred that seems to be happening in the writers’ room for this character, who is a first daughter.

They literally had Leslie say, “Otherwise I’d hunt her down, and we wouldn’t even need a live donor.” Leslie, the woman they are trying to use this story to redeem? After Kat sat with her and comforted her? You want us to think Kat is an evil bitch, but you show her being compassionate even to the wicked witch who helped destroy her family and tried to kill a family friend. Twice.

Poor writing choices all around, and it has ruined Leslie to the point that I want her killed off or sent to prison for life. I love Trisha; bring her back as a twin. There are multiple ways to play this. We can learn that she wasn’t even Dana, that Dana gave birth to Eva, and Leslie stole Dana’s life. There are so many ways to make this happen, but Leslie is ruined forever. That was too far for a character barely holding on.

As for Dani, Bill, and Andre, I am still disgusted that Dani defiled herself with a man who emotionally abused her, so I don’t have much more to say there.

I loved that Nicole stood up for Kat for once. I just wish she had said more to Ted for guilting Kat into this.
