Apple TV’s “Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed” Teaser Promises Twisted Laughs Ahead of May 20 Premiere

Apple TV is clearly in its “let’s make suburban life deeply unsettling” era, and the newly released teaser for Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed suggests it’s leaning all the way in. The dark comedy thriller, starring Tatiana Maslany and Jake Johnson, officially premieres May 20 and if the first footage is any indication, viewers should prepare for a messy mix of murder, motherhood, and midlife unraveling.

The half-hour, ten-episode series kicks off with a two-episode debut before rolling out weekly through July 15. That slow-burn release strategy feels intentional, especially for a show built on paranoia and unraveling secrets. Apple TV has found a groove with buzzy, character-driven thrillers, and Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed looks ready to join the lineup—preferably while knocking over a few expectations along the way.

Maslany leads the series as Paula, a newly divorced mom who becomes convinced she’s witnessed a crime. Instead of doing the rational thing (calling the authorities and moving on), Paula spirals into her own investigation while juggling a custody battle and what appears to be a full-blown identity crisis. The teaser hints that what starts as suspicion quickly snowballs into blackmail, murder, and because life loves irony, youth soccer.

If that tonal cocktail sounds a little unhinged, that’s the point. Maslany, best known for Orphan Black, looks right at home playing a woman teetering between sharp intuition and total collapse. Opposite her, Johnson of New Girl fame brings his signature laid-back energy, which should either ground the story or quietly make everything worse.

The supporting cast is packed with recognizable talent, including Brandon Flynn, Murray Bartlett, and Dolly de Leon, hinting that Paula’s descent into suspicion won’t be a solo act. Behind the scenes, creator David J. Rosen teams up with director David Gordon Green, a pairing that suggests a careful blend of tension and offbeat humor.

The teaser itself keeps things deliberately vague, quick flashes, ominous vibes, and just enough plot breadcrumbs to keep speculation alive. It doesn’t spell everything out, but it doesn’t need to. The tone alone sells the premise: suburban normalcy cracking under pressure, with secrets slipping out in increasingly dangerous ways.

With its May 20 premiere date locked in, Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed is shaping up to be one of Apple TV’s more intriguing swings this year. Whether it delivers will depend on how well it balances its humor with the darker elements, but for now, the teaser does its job, hooking attention and leaving just enough unease to make tuning in feel like the only reasonable next step.
