Move over Lotso, there’s a new villain in town and it has WiFi. Pixar has officially dropped the first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5, and our favorite gang of plastic and plush heroes is facing something far scarier than a daycare or antique shop. This time, Woody, Buzz, and Jessie are going head to head with Lilypad, a shiny new high-tech toy that looks like a frog-shaped tablet and seems determined to make playtime nearly impossible.
The teaser, released by Disney and Pixar ahead of the film’s June 19, 2026 premiere, teases a hilarious and slightly existential crisis for the toys. As technology takes center stage, the beloved crew must figure out how to stay relevant in a world where touchscreens outshine imagination. Voice icons Tom Hanks and Tim Allen return as Woody and Buzz, joined by Joan Cusack as Jessie and Blake Clark as Slinky Dog. Greta Lee steps in as the voice of Lilypad, while comedian Conan O’Brien joins the chaos as Smarty Pants, a character whose name alone promises trouble.
Directed by Andrew Stanton, the creative force behind Finding Nemo and Wall-E, Toy Story 5 seems ready to blend heartfelt nostalgia with sharp commentary on modern childhood. Stanton, who co-wrote every previous Toy Story installment, is taking the director’s chair solo this time, which should have longtime fans bracing for emotional damage in the best Pixar fashion.
Pixar has had a rollercoaster run lately, with hits like Inside Out 2 crushing box office records and misfires like Elio barely making a ripple. But when it comes to Toy Story, consistency is kind of their thing. This franchise practically invented Pixar’s magic formula, laughter, tears, and a lesson about growing up that hits a little too close to home.
If the teaser is any indication, Toy Story 5 could be a smart, funny, and slightly meta return to form for Pixar. It’s nostalgia for adults, excitement for kids, and one giant reminder that no one is ever too old to panic over a talking toy.
