If you thought Frank Castle was busy knitting sweaters or taking up artisanal sourdough during his time away from our screens, the first trailer for The Punisher: One Last Kill is here to shatter that peaceful image, along with several dozen henchmen’s ribcages. Dropping today, April 9, the first look at Marvel’s latest Special Presentation confirms what we all suspected: Jon Bernthal is still the scariest man on Disney+, and he really needs a better hobby than urban pacification.
A Short Trip to Ultra-Violence
Slated for a May 12 release, One Last Kill isn't a grueling thirteen-episode slog. Instead, Marvel is leaning into the "Special Presentation" format that worked so well for Werewolf by Night. It’s a lean, mean, sixty-minute sprint that catches up with Frank in the aftermath of Daredevil: Born Again.
The trailer opens with a bearded, clearly exhausted Frank Castle attempting to live a quiet life in a New York City neighborhood that has seen better centuries. Naturally, because this is a Marvel project, his attempt at retirement lasts about as long as a New Year’s resolution. When a local syndicate starts leaning on a young family next door, Frank decides to unpack his favorite tactical vest for one final house cleaning.
The Bernthal Factor
What makes this trailer sing is Jon Bernthal. While other MCU heroes are busy quipping about shawarma, Bernthal’s Castle looks like he hasn't slept since 2017. He co-wrote the script with director Reinaldo Marcus Green, and that DNA is visible in every frame. The action looks heavy, desperate, and uncomfortably intimate. It trades the flashy CGI beams for the sound of breaking bones and tactical precision.
We also get a brief, welcome glimpse of Jason R. Moore returning as Curtis Hoyle. It seems Curtis is still the only person on the planet capable of talking Frank down from a ledge, though from the looks of the explosions in the final montage, he might have been a few minutes late this time.
Bridging the Gap
For those keeping track of the ever-expanding MCU spreadsheet, One Last Kill is strategically placed. It arrives exactly one week after the Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 finale and serves as the narrative connective tissue before Frank Castle joins the big leagues in July’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
If this trailer is any indication, Disney is finally comfortable letting the "TV-MA" flag fly high. It’s gritty, it’s grim, and it’s exactly the kind of palate cleanser needed after too many multiversal adventures.
The Punisher: One Last Kill hits Disney+ on May 12, 2026. Keep your eyes on The TV Cave for our full recap and a breakdown of every Easter egg Frank leaves in his wake.
