Reneé Rapp Joins The Morning Show and More Must-Know TV Casting News

Blonde woman in a grey pinstripe suit with red lipstick and a serious expression, set against a dark background.

If you thought the power struggles at UBA couldn't get any more chaotic, think again. The Morning Show is officially adding more fuel to its star-studded fire, and we are absolutely here for the drama. At The TV Cave, we live for a good casting shake-up, and the latest batch of announcements headlined by the arrival of Reneé Rapp proves that the streaming wars are only getting more expensive and a whole lot more interesting.

Reneé Rapp Is the New Face of UBA

Let’s be real: Apple TV knows how to spend a budget. Reneé Rapp, the multi-hyphenate who conquered Broadway and stole every scene in The Sex Lives of College Girls, is officially joining The Morning Show Season 5. She’s set to play Samantha, a "young rising star" within the news division.

In a show where Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon spend most of their time vibrating with anxiety and ambition, Rapp’s natural "don't mess with me" energy is the perfect addition. Samantha is described as someone who wants to succeed on her own terms, which is basically code for "she’s going to make Cory Ellison’s life a living hell." We can only hope she brings a fraction of Regina George’s bite to the UBA newsroom. She joins fellow newcomers Jeff Daniels and Jesse Williams, making Season 5 look like a masterclass in "How Many A-Listers Can We Fit on One Call Sheet?"

Netflix Goes Literary with Maya Hawke and Aaron Taylor-Johnson

While Apple is busy with its corporate melodrama, Netflix is raiding the bestseller aisle. Maya Hawke is staying in the Netflix family post-Stranger Things to star in The God in the Woods. Based on Liz Moore’s hit novel, Hawke plays Judy, a 1970s investigator trying to find a missing girl at a summer camp. It’s giving True Detective meets The Parent Trap but with significantly more trauma.

Not to be outdone, Aaron Taylor-Johnson who is perpetually rumored to be the next James Bond but seemingly prefers being a "Netflix Boy" is set to lead the adaptation of Enigma Variations. It’s a decades-spanning romantic drama about a man reshaped by his lovers. If the show is even half as moody as the book, expect a lot of lingering stares and expensive cinematography.

The Slow Motion Return: Baywatch 2.0

Fox is officially reviving Baywatch, and while we’re still waiting to see if red swimsuits are still "in," the cast is filling out. Newcomers like Ashley Moore, Kylar Miranda, Nadia Gray, Charlie McElveen and Luke Eisner are officially on board for the 2026-2027 season. Whether this reboot can survive in a world that already has White Lotus remains to be seen, but the beach is officially open for business.

Krysten Ritter: From Superhero to Grifter

Finally, the incomparable Krysten Ritter is returning to her dark, twisty roots. She’s set to star in and produce Retreat, an adaptation of her own novel. She plays Liz Dawson, a grifter who accidentally assumes the identity of a wealthy dead woman. It sounds like Inventing Anna meets Jessica Jones, and honestly, we’d watch Ritter read a phone book if she looked annoyed enough while doing it.

The Final Word

From the high-stakes newsrooms of Manhattan to the sun-drenched beaches of a rebooted past, the upcoming television landscape is looking crowded in the best way possible. Reneé Rapp joining The Morning Show is the "youth infusion" the series desperately needs, while the influx of book-to-screen adaptations suggests Hollywood has finally realized that good writing actually matters.
