Man kneels over a restrained person in a dimly lit room with wooden beams and lamps, creating a tense and dramatic atmosphere.

Prater is getting restless. One of his serial killers is missing, and another sits in jail. Meanwhile, Dexter is itching for a kill. He’s already taken out one of the Serial Killers Anonymous members and snitched on another, leading to her capture, but restraint has never been his strong suit.

While fixing up his front yard, Dexter watches Blessing nearly stumble down the stairs. Blessing shares that his mother has passed and asks Dexter to attend her wake. Unsure how to respond, Dexter reluctantly agrees, later canceling plans with Harrison, who arrives dressed and ready, even bringing something for Dexter to wear. The two attend together. At the wake, Dexter listens to tributes to Prudence, gives a short speech, and accepts one of her cat statuettes. For a moment, he almost looks misty-eyed.

The episode starts slow but hits its stride midway—leading to a big, spoiler-heavy twist by the end. This is your spoiler warning.

After the wake, Gareth drops by Dexter’s place. Dexter isn’t ready to kill him yet, but slips the contents of his syringe into a gin and tonic. Gareth, cautious, makes Dexter jump through hoops before accepting a drink, and then swaps glasses. Gareth has never trusted Dexter, and has been suspicious of him. Especially after he suggests that Mia be killed but Dexter was against killing her thinking that she wouldn't flip on them. Dexter is still a step ahead, he planned for Gatheth to switch the glasses and moments later, Gareth is out cold.

Dexter begins prepping the body when Blessing knocks at the door. In a panic, Dexter shoves the plastic-wrapped body into the bathtub. Blessing, overwhelmed with grief and battling a headache, asks for medicine. It is a powerful scene when Blessing tells everything that his mother has done for him. Dexter directs him to the bathroom cabinet, forgetting the corpse is in the tub. We are taking on a tense ride, the curtain is closed but there is a loose hook that blessing fixes. The tension rises but, Blessing leaves without spotting it.

Elsewhere, Harrison babysits Elsa’s son when the landlord shows up demanding rent. Harrison pushes back, saying the mold is making the boy sick. The landlord shrugs it off. Harrison’s dark passenger stirs—he imagines stabbing the man in the eye, but resists. Later, he tells Dexter he fears he’s becoming like him. Dexter assures him the guilt and hesitation prove otherwise. He didn't feel those things, he chased that release. This drives home the season’s recurring theme of duality. But trouble looms. Batista visits the detectives, telling them about the Bay Harbor Butcher and his connection to Harrison. He’s convinced Harrison killed the rapist, not Mia. Batista insists on questioning her, but when they arrive, she’s already dead.

Prater waits outside Red’s house but can’t find him. He calls and reaches Dexter, who claims he’s moved and is struggling to trust anyone. They agree to meet. At a pier, Prater, Dexter, and others board a helicopter, waiting for Gareth. Time drags… until Gareth appears. Dexter has a WTF moment, but he remembers that Gareth is labeled the Gemini killer as he kills in twos. He has a twin. Twin Gareth slides in a seat right next to Dexter, setting the stage for a killer-versus-killer game of cat and mouse.

Final Thoughts:

This episode was a slow burn that builds to a nice twist that sets the stage for the next three episodes, earning it a solid 7/10.
